corporate media vs democratization of journalism
Corporate media is a term which refers to a system of mass media production, distribution, ownership, and funding which is dominated by corporation and their CEOs. There are six companies that control the media which are, GE, news corp, Disney, Viacom, time Warner and CBS.
An example of corporate media is ABC News Alexander Malin and Jake Letterman reported. In an emotional house committee on veterans, a panel of parents decried failures in the VA and the department of defense as contributing to the mental pressure that makes their sons to kill themselves. The mother of deceased army veteran Brian Portuine blamed the VA and DOD for clearing her son redeployment after multiple traumatic combat experiences. " Upon returning from the second deployment in 2010. Brian with DTSD, TBI , depression and anxiety", Port wine said, " i never knew of his conditions. If the DOD and VA assessed Brian for high suicide risk, it was their duty to treat him, but he received nothing." Miller said he will be looking for ways to hold VA officials accountable for any evidence to fix the problem. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2014/07/veteran-suicides-draw-tearful-families-to-capitol-hill/

Democratic Journalism is where news and stories are ranked by a vote among the stories and readers. This is due to the creation of social networking sites. This would also have different meanings in First, Second and Third world nations. The democratic role of journalism transcends excessive commercialism, sensationalism, and manipulation by the media websites.
World Cup: Germany-Brazil Match scores twitter, Facebook records for sports chatters. Germany's 7-1 trouncing of host country Brazil in the 2014 FIFA World Cup semifinals on Tuesday it was seen as the most discussed sporting game ever on twitter with 35.6 million tweets posted worldwide during the match and generated record activity on Facebook. World cup 2014 to break social media records. Fans of Brazil star forward Neymar was forced to miss the game because of a severe injury, the fans were disappointed. The problem with democratic journalism is that the social media websites tell you what they want you to hear not what the public wants to hear. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2014-07-09/entertainment/sns-201407090639reedbusivarietyn1201259646-20140709_1_fifa-world-cup-tweets-rio-ferdinand

ABCs Diane Sawyer misrepresents footage of Palestinian bombing victims. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-m4PlW-KgI more than fifty Palestinians have been killed and another 450 wounded since Monday in Israel's ongoing assault on the besieged Gaza besieged strip, by the Israeli army. In one example, ABC news Diane sawyer misidentifies scenes of the aftermath of Israeli missile strikes in Gaza as destruction caused by Palestine rocket fire. Sawyer says, " We take you overseas now to the rockets raining down on Israel today as Israel tried to shoot them out of the sky."

I personality think as long as we have both medias we'll be okay but, the social media websites need to start informing us on what is happening around the world not just sports, celebrities, etc..

invisible people

                                                                   voiceless people
There's approximate 1.7 million homeless teens in the U.S. many people get homeless either because they get kicked out of the house, drug abuse, or laziness. today i found  3 homeless people  that have no home and are struggling to feed themselves and their family.
Emily and her husband live in a hotel near st Louis with their 4 kids and another one on the way. Emily said "my husband lost his job then, we went to family members house to stay but once there car broke down they ended up in a hotel". that was almost a year ago. this family is living in a hotel is very tough because its 1,000 dollars a month. her husband started to wok again and luckily  they can save some money to find a house or apartment but to pay rent will be challenging. watch video here>http://invisiblepeople.tv/blog/2014/06/emily-and-her-children-homeless-family-hotel/?autoplay=1

being homeless is a problem. we need to try to help these people that need the attention and to be heard. things that we can do is to use the social media websites to grab people attention and start an organization on giving money to the homeless. we can also give free food to the homeless

Blessed be: Michelle Rodriguez and Zac Efron were photographed kissing on a boat in Sardinia while he clasped an iPad in his firm but tender Efron-grasp. (Making out with a grown-up teen heartthrob who's holding an expensive electronic device in close proximity to the ocean is the ultimate representation of the American dream, I think.)

light up your community

I traveled to Australia a week ago i visited a indigenous communities in Redfern. i interviewed a man named Anthony Mundine. He is the son of boxer Tony Mundine and is a member of the Bundjalung people. Mundine has had a stormy relationship with the media. His conversion to Islam in 1999, self-promotion and outspoken opinions have created a love-hate relationship with the Australian public and he has been described as "the most polarizing athlete in Australian sports history". Before his boxing career, he was delightful that they built a gym in his block because he feels like he can get away from all the bad influence being brought to him and the community such as, drugs and alcohol. Anthony have seen people getting arrested and he thought to himself that he didn't want to be like that. He wants to be somebody that people can look up to and to inspire.Throughout his life he was dealing with peer pressure to take drugs, but he had a strong mentality to refuse drugs and better himself to be the best and achieve in something. He stated, " I saw a lot of drugs and alcohol affecting my people coming up as a kid, and i didn't want to be like that." Sports was his hero. He had a passion for sports and to be successful. He is very dedicated to his sport and nothing is going to stop him.
peer pressure can come at you directly when someone tells you to use drugs or drink to fit in with the crowd. If someone is feeling pressured to take drugs the best thing to do is to talk to someone for helpful decisions to better yourself.

For most of Mindy’s 19 years of life, she was a “normal kid” Drugs and alcohol had never been a problem Mindy says, “I didn’t drink, smoke pot or anything,” she says. But Mindy’s boyfriend was another story. Her boyfriend was into heroin.  Though she was tempted to try it, she never did. And then in 2009, he jabbed her with a heroin-filled syringe as she walked by. After a while she got addicted and she use to steal money from her parents to buy drugs. Mindy continued with her addiction. after a couple months she got a therapist because she wasn't proud of her decisions. Like Anthony she decided to let stress out on something that can benefit them. One of the most important lessons was making a commitment to honesty – with herself, and with others. “I learned I had to be honest with myself,” Mindy says. “I had been lying to myself.”
Mindy graduated from Hope Academy on May 28th, 2010, and has enrolled at IVY Tech Community College. After she finishes at IVY Tech she wants to earn a degree in mortuary sciences, but is taking life one day at a time. “I live by that,” she says with a smile. http://www.fairbankscd.org/mind

It started with a pill at a party. Taryn Erbes a 17 years old student at kennedy high school, just wanted to get a little high. She figured the prescription pills were safer than illegal substances like alcohol and marijuana. And since they were legal, Erbes thought she'd got in less trouble if she were caught. At first she didnt need the drug as often but then she felt like she needed it every hour which leads to addiction. Her grades slipped. She stopped participating in sports and after school activities. " she was just so focused on the drugs", her friend said. According to woolery calls to the poison control center in lowa for prescription pain relievers have increased 2,300 percent. " too many people are getting hurt," woolery said. " and tragically, too many people die. we need to work on improving that situation before it gets worse." woolery also said " its clear now one persons medicine can be another persons poison." Taryn is now making a tranformation to her life. She hopes to graduate in May and said the area subtance abuse council has "change her life".these two stories are similar to Anthonys because these two people were being peer pressured and were struggling to find a good path to succeed.
